What is a Storywalk?

image.png

A StoryWalk is an innovative and engaging activity designed to encourage reading and promote literacy among children and families. It involves displaying pages of a children’s book in the windows of participating businesses, creating a walkable path that leads readers from one location to the next. As participants stroll through the community, they can enjoy reading the book, page by page, as they visit each participating business.

StoryWalk Project ® was conceived in Montpelier, Vermont by Anne Ferguson, in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. The StoryWalk welcomes children and adults alike to walk down Main Street, enjoy a story, check out our downtown businesses, and maybe grab a treat while they're there.

Stories are changed for each season, so look for new ones throughout the year. Each book or storywalk will stay up during the following months:

Winter - December, January, February

Spring - March, April, May

Summer - June, July, August

Fall - September, October, November
